Why Libraries are Important

Cottage Grove, Wis. - Dec 15, 2008
When we think of a community we think of the cornerstones that define that community: the schools, the parks, businesses and libraries. These cornerstones make the community not only more attractive, but bring people together.

Here are some reasons for supporting a library for Cottage Grove, when the time is right:

• A library is a community center. It is a place where all ages can gather, and attend educational programs.  It is a safe place for young people to gather and for seniors to stay connected and engaged.

• A library is an information center. It is a place where an information specialist can answer your questions.

• A library is a heritage center. It can be the place where community history can be showcased, and where one can go for assistance with genealogy and family history.

• A library is a literacy place. Libraries promote the joy of reading.

• A library is a place where parents can share quality time together with their children. Libraries offer story times and children’s programming.

• A library is a technology center where residents can take classes to help them use the resources of the 21st century.

• A library is a place to get help with research and find accurate answers to questions.

• A library is a place to find community information. Libraries have resources on where to shop locally, news about school and community events. Libraries also provide information on support services close to home.

• A library can work with the schools to support learning and make educational programs stronger.

• A library is a place where residents can look for jobs and employment resources.

There are many in Cottage Grove that still believe that a library is a good idea. In tough economic times libraries are even more important. Having these resources close to home can make our community stronger. Please help make Today’s Vision Tomorrow’s Reality.
